Duff is currently an associate athletic director at BYU. He graduated from BYU with a B.A. in communications and later received a M.A. in human resource management from Hawaii Pacific University. He earned the Eagle Scout Award at age 13 and has served in the Scouting program and in various Church callings with the youth for 30 years. Duff and his wife Sherry are the parents of five children and one grandchild. Their oldest son is an Eagle Scout and their youngest is on his way. Duff is the author of two books, BYU Football Vault: The History of the Cougars and What It Means to be a Cougar.
