The Countess and the Impossible

This third day of Kwanzaa, we consider Collective Work and Responsibility (Ujima ): To build and maintain our community together and make our brothers’ and sisters’ problems our problems, and to solve them together.

As a young Scout in the 1960s, our Scoutmaster Farnes Berntsen taught us how to work, and work hard. One evening he shared the great closing story :The Countess and the Impossible” from the Reader’s Digest, it is my all time favorite Scoutmaster’s minute.  Originally posted here you can read the story here where I moved for a bigger reading audience.

Darryl, just ran across this while searching for the story I heard recited by memory over the pulpit on High Counselor speaking sunday. I grew up in the East Millcreek 9th ward. remembering Farnes and I guess your brother Mike.
