Volunteers Wanted: New District Created to Serve Community and Exploring Scouting Units

I am pleased to announce that effective August 16, a new district service area was created to serve community, religious and Exploring Scouting units in Central and Southern Utah.

Because of the unique demographic of our council, this as-yet-to-be-named district is designed to provide support, resources and effective customer support to Scouting and Exploring units not sponsored by the LDS Church. It will provide a voice and platform for these chartered partners in Scouting and Exploring populations. Finally, the new district service area will help identify and develop new Scouting and Exploring membership and unit leads throughout the area.

The new district service area is literally brand new. As such, there is no volunteer leadership structure (district committee), monthly Roundtable meeting, website, etc. currently in-place. We’re seeking high-caliber, community-minded individuals to serve in this new district service area.

Key 3 OutdoorsAs part of the district’s leadership team, district committee members, in conjunction with professional Scouting staff, support the areas of finance, membership, program and unit service. The district committee helps develop and guide the district to completion of objectives in these areas with the goal of reaching and serving more youth across the geographic area. The district committee meets bi-monthly. District committee members are volunteers elected to one-year terms of office. Previous experience in Scouting is not required.

It is important to note the new district service area is simply an option for community units. Units may choose to participate in the new district or they may remain in their current district service area. The choice is yours…There is no mandate to participate/join the new district.

In the coming weeks, I will be contacting the Charter Organization Representative (COR) and/or Institution Head (IH) of each Scouting and Exploring community unit in Utah County to schedule a face-to-face meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to introduce myself at the new District Director for this district, explain the direction/vision of the new district service area, discuss ways in which I can be of assistance and determine the charter partner’s intent to participate-or to not participate-in the new district service area. Look to hear from me by phone and/or email.

My contact information: / (801) 437-6237. Email is preferred.

I’m excited about this opportunity and look forward to meeting and serving you in the coming weeks and months!
