Can You Help Feed the Hungry by Scouting for Food Today?

Many of our readers are following the LDS Church’s #LIGHTtheWORLD campaign this month. One suggestion for today is to donate non-perishable items to a local food bank or to invite a neighbor on a tight budget to dinner. If you live in Utah County, you can do even more.

Here are two ways to feed the hungry in the Provo area:

food-pantryMost Scouts know about Scouting for Food. They also may have delivered donations to the Community Action Services & Food Bank. These organizations help supply low-income families with food at Christmastime (and all year round). Volunteers are needed to run local food drives, help unload, sort, and restock donated items in the pantry, or put together specialty kits. Walk-ins are welcome, or you can sign up at communityactionprovo.org/volunteer/scouting-opportunities/ or call 801.373.8200.

Another local organization called the Food and Care Coalition needs volunteers to serve food or play a musical instrument during meal time. You can donate hygiene items or conduct a food drive. For a complete list of service opportunities with the organization, view this video. Check them out at foodandcare.org/volunteer/opportunities/, or call 801.373.1825.

What will you and your Scouts do today to help feed the hungry?
