Cabela’s Donates Hours of Service for Maple Dell Scout Camp

In late September Joe Haycock, Cabela’s Marketing Manager/PR Liaison, contacted the Utah National Parks Council and told us that they like to do an annual service project and they wanted to volunteer to help the Boy Scouts in Utah County. Joe was quickly routed to me where we discussed several different service projects they might pick from, but to my delight Joe said they wanted to work on not just one but multiple of those projects.

177On October 13th, 2016 we met Joe and 9 of his fellow co-worker “Outfitters” at Home Depot where the purchased close to $1,000 in supplies for the service projects then they headed up to camp.

Camp Ranger Mark Veteto and the Cabela’s crew worked side by side and completed three projects for the camp. With winter just around the corner the crew took down and put away the staff tents.  Then they moved on to upgrading our “Chapel” Amphitheater by building and then painting a third section of seating which has been needed for years. As they neared completion of that project, several of the workers moved on to installing and painting fire hose lockers next to the fire hydrants so the hoses will be close at hand in case they are needed.

cabelas-serviceTo show our Council’s appreciation, Senior District Executive John P. Peterson, whose district Cabela’s is located in, presented Cabela’s with a framed set of the Council’s Friends of Scouting Council Strip Patch series.

I want to add my personal thank you on behalf of Maple Dell Scout Camp to Cabela’s Outfitters for their generous donation of time, money, and resources to help improve Maple Dell Scout Camp for the Scouts we serve.
