Local Scouts Have a Blast Creating Derby Cars at Champ Camp in Orem

Champ Camp at the Orem Scout office was a success!

This past Saturday, January 20, Scouts took shelter from the snowy weather in our Orem Scout office at Champ Camp to start, continue or finish their pinewood derby cars.

With Scouts already hard at work shaping their blocks into cars, the wonderful smell of cut wood welcomed each following newcomer. Seeing young Cub Scouts with paint all over their fingers, big smiles on their faces and parents having fun helping them is what the pinewood derby is all about.

At the Champ Camp, Scouts were also able to weigh their cars, test them on a practice track and see tool demos. After a bit of designing, cutting, buffing, sanding, painting and adding wheels, Scouts were able to make their derby car designs come to life.

Read this Voice of Scouting article  to find out about the fastest derby car designs that you can with your pinewood derby competition with!

Thank you to everyone who helped out with Champ Camp and to everyone who came! Good luck and happy derby racing!
