On July 3, Lewis will be honored by the Utah National Parks Council, Boy Scouts of America with a Distinguished Eagle Scout Award at A Celebration of Eagles in the Utah Valley University, UCCU Event Center at 7:00 p.m. More men have summited Mount Everest than have received this prestigious award. The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award is bestowed upon men who earned their Eagle Scout Award in their youth and then received extraordinary national-level recognition, fame, or eminence in their profession.
Utilizing Scouting as a stepping stone to life, Lewis, served a mission to Taiwan, summited Mt. Kilimanjaro with the Wounded Warrior Project, played NFL football for nine years –winning the 1999 Super Bowl, and currently serves as the NFL’s Ambassador to Southeast Asia.
For Lewis, it all started in Orem, Utah as a Boy Scout. Lewis learned perseverance and positive choices from his father and Scoutmaster, Dr. Roger Lewis, who overcame a nearly fatal stoke with dignity, gratitude, and faith. Lewis recounts his life experiences in his memoir “Surround Yourself with Greatness” a compilation of inspiring motivational stories illustrating tenacity, teamwork, and leadership.
A Celebration of Eagles will feature Distinguished Eagle Scouts Chad Lewis-former NFL football player, Ron Mika-venture capitalist, Milton Lee-Brigham Young University professor and inventor, and Dee Walker-nuclear engineer, for their national prominence as well many Outstanding Eagle Scouts for their local contributions to society in leadership and commerce.
As a part of the Freedom Festival, A Celebration of Eagles is open to the public. Entertainment will feature the Nashville Tribute Band. Tickets are available at Smith’s Tix and online at www.utahscouts.org/eagles2014.
