The Distinguished Eagle Scout award is a rare achievement. More people have summited Mount Everest than have received this prestigious award given to Eagle Scouts in honor of long-term national and international career accomplishments and significant, consistent community service. Going back to 1969, the first year the award was given, honorees from Utah have included Dallin H. Oaks, Jeffery R. Holland, Larry M. Gibson, and Alan Ashton.

As an example of ethical and moral leadership in business and more generally, Mika is a role model for Scouts. He has served in many Scouting leadership positions in the last 30 years; recently his favorite was as a nine-year-term Scoutmaster in Alpine, Utah. His business career spans 25 years with the private investment firms Sorenson Capital and Bain Capital. During his career, he has assisted dozens of businesses obtain investment capital to help them grow and create thousands of jobs.
