Rise and Shout!
Football Scout Day 2017
On Saturday, November 18th, Scouts from all over Utah County gathered at Lavell Edwards Football Stadium for Scout Day 2017. They came to watch the Brigham Young University Cougars face off with the University of Massachusetts Minutemen. BYU Football partnered with the Utah National Parks Council to discount tickets for anyone who loves Scouting, allowing many Scouts and their families a chance to watch some of their favorite players. It was a beautiful, sunny day when the team kicked off at 1 p.m.
Kicker Rhett Almond made two field goals, earning the Cougars six points. Freshman quarterback Joe Critchlow, who had a rough start to the game, completed a pass to Matt Bushman for a touchdown in the end of the fourth quarter. Canada and Simon led the team in rushing and receiving yards, respectively.
During half-time, a group of Scouts in attendance were able to have an up close and personal experience with BYU football. They were able to meet some of the players. They also had the opportunity to stand on the field, seeing first hand what it is like for the team to stand on the turf surrounded by thousands of people. The most exciting thing to the boys, though, was getting to meet Cosmo. In typical Cosmo fashion, he goofed around and posed for pictures. He even played a little catch!
BYU really helped the Scouts feel welcome and created an unforgettable memory for those Scouts. We are grateful to BYU for partnering with us for this special event and fundraiser. $2 from every ticket sale went directly to the Utah National Parks Council. A big thank you as well to everyone who purchased a ticket.
