While the month is more than half way over, there’s still time to take the pledge of lighting the world by giving Christ-like service to others during this very special Christmas season.
Dec 21 – Jesus Showed Gratitude and So Can You
SOME WAYS TO GET INVOLVED
- Give a simple gift to your mail carrier to raise spirits duringtheir busiest season.
- Offer a prayer of pure gratitude. No requests. Just thanks.
- Write a thank you letter to someone who has positively impacted your life.
December 1st, the LDS Church kicked off the it’s “Light the World. In 25 Ways. Over 25 Days” program. Detailed on Mormon.org/Christmas, this year’s Christmas message is all about givng Christ-like service, which should resonate with Scouts everywhere. We try to do a “Good Turn Daily,” so it ought to be a pretty simple task for our Scouts to give service in 25 ways for the next 25 days.
“Serve anyone you want, any way you want” today and every day until Christmas. That’s the message of the Church as it kicks off “Light the World. In 25 Ways. Over 25 Days.” Detailed on Mormon.org/Christmas, this year’s Christmas message is all about givng Christ-like service.
The daily Good Turn is a major part of the personal growth method of Boy Scouting. It works equally well with Venturers, Cub Scouts and Varsity Scouts. Boys grow as they participate in community service projects and do Good Turns for others.
A new LDS video. “Light the World,” explains the initiative by encouraging us all to share the light of Christ through small, but meaningful acts of service on each of the 25 days before Christmas. You can also download this Advent Calendar of Service Suggestions.
“When people think of Christmas, they often think of lights,” said Bruce Muir, director of emergency response for the Church. “Christmas lights, lighted store windows, tree lights. Christ taught ‘Ye are the light of the world,” and we hope that through small and simple acts of service, we can spread the light of Christ—helping others to feel the love of the Savior through genuine kindness.”
Probably no device in Scouting is so successful in developing a basis for personal growth as the daily Good Turn. Record your good deeds in social media with #LIGHTtheWORLD.
Today for the Worldwide Day of Service, I am giving blood.
What will you do?
