How Scouts Can Help “Light the World” – Week 4

This Christmas, we are following along with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ “Light the World” campaign. Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, spent much of His ministry caring for individuals, one by one. This movement encourages everyone to follow His example this Christmas and find ways to share our time, love, and resources with those in need.

Once a week, until Christmas, we will explore the ways Scouts and families can Light the World by helping others as Jesus Christ would. We hope you will follow along with us this holiday season and share your stories of how you and your Scouts have helped to Light the World.

Week 4: Light the World

This week’s Light the World challenge is all about strengthening your faith: “As we reach out to give as Jesus gave, we ultimately fan the flame of our own faith. This week, reflect on ways following Jesus Christ has brightened your life and discover a few more ways to light your faith.”

As Scouts, every time we repeat the Scout Oath we promise to do our best to do our duty to God. This week is a great time to increase your faith by following these suggestions:

Attend a Religious Service in Your Area

For those of Christian faiths, the Christmas service is always a special one, focusing on the incredible gift of God’s Son. Taking the time to attend one of these services will help you focus on the most important thing this season and inspire you to be more Christlike in your own life.

Turn Some of the Daily “Light the World” Suggestions into New Year’s Resolutions

As you’ve followed along with this campaign, you likely noticed a difference in the way you feel and act. Giving to those in need, serving others, and strengthening our faith will change us for the better, so why not continue that change into the new year? Decide which of these challenges you’d like to continue and set goals to do so.

Turn off Your Phone for a Little While and Take Some Time to Reflect

It is easy to get distracted from the things that really matter by the constant barrage of information coming from your phone. Take some time to put it down, turn it off, or put it away so you can think about the things you’ve learned and the things that matter to you this Christmas season.

Take Some Time Today to Memorize a Scripture Verse

I have found scriptures have the most impact on me when they come to mind in real-life situations. I also find it is much more likely that they will come to mind when I have memorized them. So find a favorite verse and commit it to memory.

How Did You Light the World?

We hope you have been inspired as you’ve followed along with the Light the World campaign. All Scouts can benefit by making the world a brighter, more loving, more service-oriented place. What did you do to light the world this Christmas?
