Why Church Troops Need to Camp Together ASAP

Over the last couple of months, everyone has been asking how the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ announcement will affect Scouting. The truth? No one knows. So what do we know? We know camping. And camping, the outdoors, the Scouting values and our love of it all aren’t going anywhere. But with troops associated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints changing throughout Utah come December 2019, your 2020 camping experience will likely undergo some changes.

Those changes may include different unit members, and we are so excited to welcome new Scouts, patrols, troops, crews and units. However, we also understand that many of you have come this far with your church troops, and this will be a type of goodbye for those planning to transition to different units. So don’t miss your last hurrah camping together in 2019 as we say goodbye to one era and prepare for the new!

We’re celebrating 2019 like a graduation from elementary school or junior high school. Things will change, and everyone is wondering what the future holds, but one thing is for sure: the future holds new opportunities and new friends to be found.

Eighteen months is an eternity for our Scouts! It’s 25% of their time in the young men’s program. It’s not a small amount of time and certainly not the time to coast; it’s time to hit the gas! Join us the rest of this year for Fall Camporees, Merit Badge Adventures, Fathers and Sons and on into 2019 starting with Klondikes and continuing through with Scout Camp and more!

Merit Badge Adventures and Workshops

Merit Badge Adventures are Friday through Saturday adventures at one of our Scout camps that focus on helping youth work on one or more merit badges! Troops can now combine their monthly campout with merit badge work – no extra work for the adult leaders, and great opportunities for the youth. And because of the resources available at the council-level, some very unique experiences and merit badges can be offered! This is a great opportunity to get in a few extra nights of camping with your beloved troop.
