The Journey to Excellence standards are based on what successful units do to continually improve. Annually it becomes a framework for planning the year. As you reach to achieve gold or silver, you’ll have a strong and active program.
Journey to Excellence is a method for evaluating your unit that provides tangible measurements for Crews, Teams, Troops and Packs, based on things you are likely already tracking, such as how many campouts, how many youth are advancing, etc., and uses simple ways to calculate your performance. Recently, one Committee Chairman explained that the components of the program are his agenda for his monthly committee meetings. He asks how many service hours were performed, if the youth went camping and how many of them advanced in the month.
Journey to Excellence has specific, simple measures to help you. As you track your performance against the standards, you can easily see where you could do better. With no trouble you can compare what you are doing against those standards. You can track areas where your unit is not performing as well as you might like and have plenty of time to make corrections.
During the year use benchmarking at Roundtables and with your unit commissioner to get ideas and tips from other good units; in the areas where you are doing well, you can give help and ideas to other units. And at the end of the year you get recognition for good Scouting by receiving your bronze, silver, or gold recognition for your Scouting unit that year.
We all hope to see you climbing that that summit that leads to top notch program for your youth.
