Social media is a great resource to connect with friends and share information. It is a great way for Scouts to share with parents experiences at camp or Scouting activities.

I love it because I find all kinds of things that I am interested in like recipes, connecting with friends from out of state or the country, seeing what people are up to.

You can chat, share photos, share videos, etc. The amount of information that is shared is unfathomable. Every month, more than 30 billion posts are put on Facebook.

Caution: There is concern among parents about allowing their youth to interact on Facebook. Facebook is the new method of communicating, like texting. Youth are doing it. It is important to teach youth correct principles of how to use Facebook and then let them learn through their own mistakes. Here is a great guide for parents about Facebook – click here.

Hint: I liked having my son on Facebook and liking my friends because I would always here from someone, “Did you know that your son said ….on Facebook.”

We would love to hear your comments on Facebook about Scouting. Plus, in 2014 there will be some exciting competitions. Like us now and stay up to date on the latest news and events. And share with your friends and family who are interested in Scouting.
